Where it all began. A note of thanks!
Across her late teens, law degree and early professional years, several encounters prompted Dawn’s decision and ability to train as a notary. All were guiding lights in Dawn’s professional journey and are remembered with gratitude
- Mr Millett, a consultant solicitor who encouraged Dawn to consider a notary qualification and introduced her to the world of Scrivener Notaries. As his guest at a Scrivener function, Dawn met….
- Mr Fall, international trade broker. Frank was instrumental in Dawn’s focus on international business and decision to operate in a very relational way Frank was her second business mentor (after her Dad John).
- Miss Poolman, notary and law firm partner, who Dawn did work experience with as a late teen. Tracy was Dawn’s first notary experience and showed her the importance of organisation, transparency and emotional intelligence. Dawn still meets up with Tracy at the annual notary conference.
- Mr McIntosh, former group legal head and company secretary for international aviation group, Bristow Helicopters, supported by Maureen (‘Mo’) Spooner (EA & Company Secretary and Insurance Assistant). Ian taught Dawn the importance of supporting busy board directors and managers, how to approach negotiations with large organisations, across different geographies.
- Maureen Spooner was Dawn’s first working experience with board-level EA/company secretarial support. Mo helped Dawn see and appreciate this vital role and ‘must-have skills’ of calmness, resilience, efficiency and personal communication in role. Dawn’s Bristow experience was her most formative to date, sealing her decision to become a notary and business advisor, having seen a gap in service provision in the local business area at the time.
- Mr Pinks, Dawn’s private client and family business training principal. Nick supported Dawn as she spent early and late hours studying for notarial exams, including sticking up maps of the world by her trainee solicitor desk to help memorise legalisation requirements. Nick also showed Dawn the strong connection between the commercial and private affairs of clients.
QUALIFIED AND FULL STEAM AHEAD
In 1999, aged 25, Dawn qualified as a notary public mid-way through her solicitor training contract (focusing on corporate commercial, M&A and family business). Some would say she was a bit keen as that was very unusual at the time. Dawn was self-funded and relentless in her pursuit, obtaining the highest notarial exam mark in her year and at the time, one of the youngest qualifying notaries in the country, winning an award from the Notaries Society in recognition.
In 2010, Dawn left law firm partnership and set out on her own, including forming Company Notary, which she developed to reflect her values and how she believes clients should be served. In that time Dawn has supervised several new notaries, and also supported those leaving their law firms in solicitor retirement but wanting to continue their notary work.
WHAT’S NEXT
Nearly 25 years on, Dawn has built her connections and business consulting international career around being relational, relevant and responsive.

We will be adding additional consulting team members to our notary resource.
Dawn will continue to prioritise integrity in action.
